Abu Dhabi, April 21, 2021 – Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB), a leading financial institution, announced that it has donated AED 1 million equivalent to one million meals, to the 100 Million Meals campaign, the first humanitarian campaign of its kind in the Arab world to provide food parcels for disadvantaged individuals and families across more than 30 countries in the Middle East, Asia, and Africa during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

Hasan Abdulla Al Shamsi, Area Manager at ADIB Abu Dhabi Central Area and Estidama Council Member, said, "We are pleased at ADIB to be part of the β€˜100 Million Meals’ campaign, and to help families in need across the Arab region, Africa, Asia, Europe and South America. We are also proud to be contributing to fight the international hunger challenge by partnering with the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives to provide food parcels during the Holy Month across 30 countries worldwide. This initiative is in line with ADIB’s commitment to support the wise vision of the UAE government as well as its commitment to enhance and develop its social responsibility towards various communities."

Launched on April 11th, the β€˜100 Million Meals’ campaign aims to provide food parcels for disadvantaged individuals and families across 30 countries in the Middle East, Asia, Africa, Europe and South America during the Holy Month of Ramadan after food relief operations were recently expanded.

The campaign continues to collect donations from companies and individuals inside and outside the UAE, and every AED1 donated provides one meal to beneficiaries in the targeted countries.

Tightening Brotherhood and Solidarity

The 100 Million Meals campaign embodies the UAE’s message of love and hope to, and solidarity with, the lower-income communities in the Arab and Islamic world.

This campaign ensures a quick distribution process directly to all beneficiaries, in coordination with the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Humanitarian and Charity Establishment, the UN World Food Programme, the Food Banking Regional Network, and a number of local charity and humanitarian organizations in the beneficiary countries.

Feeding Millions

Launched as an expansion of 2020’s locally held 10 Million Meals campaign that empowered COVID-19-hit communities across the UAE, the 100 Million Meals campaign will provide food aid to the most vulnerable populations in the Middle East, Africa and Asia. Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, organizers of the 100 Million Meals campaign, acknowledges the importance of addressing the high rates of hunger and malnutrition in the region, while the world produces enough food to nourish 10 billion people, and a quarter of the food wasted around the world could feed 870 million people.

The 100 Million Meals campaign comes within the UAE's strong support for the international efforts aimed at eliminating hunger by 2030. The UAE provides financial support to the UN World Food Programme and was ranked fifth largest donor globally in 2019, with a value of US$270 million, after the USA, Britain, the European Union, and Germany.
